The Wicked Cake Company was founded in 1991 by brothers Christopher, Edmund and Richard Bliss. Already owners of a successful delicatessen and sandwich business in Cambridge, they faced a familiar challenge – finding consistently high-quality cakes to sell. Their solution was simple: use the kitchen above the shop to bake their own.
Our History
What began as a practical idea quickly became something much bigger. The brothers created an exciting range of premium tray cakes, and their very first signature product, the Wicked Chocolate Biscuit Cake, made from an old family recipe, soon gained cult status among Cambridge's university students. As demand grew, so did the business, supplying local cafés, catering companies and retailers before expanding across East Anglia and, eventually, throughout the UK.

Inspired by the success of the original Chocolate Biscuit Cake, the company developed a wider range of handmade favourites using only the finest ingredients. Fudge Slices, Flapjacks, Shortbreads and other tray bakes soon became customer favourites and remain at the heart of the Wicked range today.
By the mid-1990s, The Wicked Cake Company had established a successful van sales operation across East Anglia and the South East, offering more than 20 product lines. Independent retailers particularly valued the long shelf-life products, which provided a reliable and versatile cake range that complemented freshly baked goods.

In 1995, increasing demand led to a move from the kitchen above the shop to a dedicated 4,000 sq ft bakery on the outskirts of Cambridge. As the company continued to grow, a strategic decision was made to focus on manufacturing and to supply wholesalers nationwide.
Growth continued throughout the late 1990s, and in 1999 the bakery was expanded once again. Responding to changing consumer trends, the company introduced a range of individually wrapped Cake Bars, Flapjacks, Muffins and Cookies, meeting the growing demand for convenient, on-the-go snacks.
THERE’S MORE…
Over the years, The Wicked Cake Company has built a reputation for producing high-quality, ambient, long shelf-life cakes for both the foodservice and retail sectors. In 2009, the company achieved BRC Grade A accreditation, a standard it has proudly maintained ever since.
To support continued expansion, The Wicked Cake Company relocated in 2011 to a purpose-built, 22,000 sq ft production facility in Haverhill, Suffolk. The new bakery provided the capacity needed to meet growing demand from customers across the UK while maintaining the high standards of quality and consistency the business is known for.

As the business continued to evolve, it expanded into supplying muffins to European airlines and developing specialist bakery products for the sports nutrition market.
In 2017, working closely with NHS Wales, the company developed a range of nutritionally formulated cakes designed to deliver specific levels of protein and calories. These products were created to support patient nutrition and continue to demonstrate the company's commitment to innovation and meeting the diverse needs of its customers.
Today, The Wicked Cake Company remains a family-owned business, combining traditional recipes, quality ingredients and decades of baking expertise to produce cakes enjoyed by customers throughout the UK and beyond. While the business has grown considerably since its beginnings above a Cambridge shop, its commitment to quality, innovation and great-tasting cakes remains exactly the same.
